Egg freezing

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a fertility preservation technique that involves harvesting a woman's eggs, freezing them, and storing them for future use. This procedure is particularly beneficial for women who wish to preserve their fertility due to medical reasons, such as undergoing cancer treatment that may affect fertility, or for personal reasons, such as delaying childbearing to pursue education or career goals. Egg freezing begins with ovarian stimulation to produce multiple eggs, which are then retrieved through a minor surgical procedure. The retrieved eggs are then frozen using a process called vitrification, which involves rapidly cooling the eggs to subzero temperatures to prevent ice crystal formation and cellular damage. Frozen eggs can be stored for many years and thawed when the woman is ready to conceive, offering the possibility of achieving pregnancy with her own eggs later in life.
